QUERI

QUERI's mission is to more rapidly implement research evidence into routine practice.

Since its inception in 1998, QUERI has funded over 200 implementation science experts and more than 360 independently-reviewed, scientific studies that have informed national implementation of major clinical initiatives in VA.

In one year alone, QUERI-funded national Programs implemented more than 50 evidence-based practices across multiple settings, for a wide range of conditions.

QUERI also supported rigorous evaluations that have informed the implementation of national programs, policies, and legislation to improve Veteran care.

Funded through medical service dollars, QUERI currently supports more than 40 VA centers across the United States. Two of these Centers are devoted to providing consultation and resources:

• Center for Evaluation and Implementation resourced (CEIR): devoted to the identification of implementation strategies and evaluation best practices
• Partnered Evidence-based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC): Rigorous evaluation of VA national programs and policies to sustain effective practices

Other QUERI center and similar funding mechanisms include:

National Programs

• QUERI's national network of 15 academically-affiliated, interdisciplinary programs develops the best methods to scale-up and spread evidence-based practices across VA.
• The focus of these programs ranges from patient-centered care coordination to optimizing the appropriate use of medications for Veterans to enhancing the mental and physical health of women Veterans.
• National Programs also work with local and regional facility leadership to identify and implement effective practices for Veterans, and QUERI is on the VHA Network and Medical Center Performance Plan

National Partnered Evaluations
QUERI National Partnered Evaluations involve primary funding from an operations partner in order to conduct specific evaluations of initiatives with potential high impact on VA national policy. Specifically, the Centers will address the following key questions:

• To what extent, and in what manner, has the initiative been implemented?
• What factors and conditions foster or hinder implementation?
• What impact has the initiative had on patient experience, staff, quality of care, and other outcomes?

QUERI-VISN Implementation Initiative (Start-up Funds)

• QUERI-VISN Partnered Implementation Initiative (PII) start-up funds support the implementation of effective practices that address healthcare priority goals selected by the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) leadership and National Leadership Council (NLC).
• QUERI will fund up to eight VISN PII start-up proposals for $100K for one year, with the option of applying for full (two- to three-year) proposals to promote further scale-up and spread.
• QUERI PIIs teams are co-led by a VISN leader and a VA implementation expert.

Implementation Strategy Training Network
QUERI works in collaboration with the VA Innovation Ecosystem to support the use of evidence-based methods to help providers scale-up and spread effective practices. This Training Network provides support for Diffusion of Excellence Gold Status fellows through their participation in QUERI's:

• Diffusion of Excellence Base Camp,
• Implementation Strategy Hub Sites, and
• Ongoing consultation CEIR
